Red wine with a deep ruby color, with a bright crimson edge. On the nose, seductive aromas of black and red berries and cherry, with dark chocolate are added to winter spices, rose and violet.

Intricate palate, with a strong fruity connotation that is both powerful and graceful. A persistent finish and excellent complexity.

Expected evolution: The 2019 vintage of Bellingham's Maverick SMV is immediately engaging with its enormous complexity, but promises perfect evolution for up to ten years after bottling.

Pairings at the table: Roast lamb, grilled beef steaks, spicy sausages or vegetable ragout.

Origin

Wine of Origin South Africa.

In the vineyard

The grapes are hand-picked from selected vineyards in the Agter-Paarl region at optimal ripeness. The smaller components of Mourvèdre and Viognier come from farms that have pioneered the planting of these varieties in South Africa. The grapes are specially sourced for their soft, juicy tannin and fruit purity.

In the cellar

Careful quality control involves the selection of the bunches at harvest, as well as the selection of the grapes upon arrival in the cellar. This is followed by natural co-fermentation between Shiraz, Mourvèdre and Viognier. The young wine underwent malolactic fermentation in French oak and was aged in barrels for a period of 14 months.
